Crater Lake National Park - Deep Blue

Sunrise over Wizard Island

Crater Lake is Oregons only National Park and part of the Cascade Range. About 7000 years ago an ancient volcano called Mt. Mazama erupted and lost it's entire top. Crater Lake was created when the volcano collapsed. It is almost 2000 ft. deep. This is the reason for the deep blue color of the water. Only the deep blue components of the light get scattered back to the surface.
